EDDIE SCRIMSHIRE MALVERN ARKANSAS HIGHSCOOL CLASS OF 1960 Ed is in the process of dying as the cancer has spread to the bones. He is at Ft. Root or the VA hospital in North Little Rock for hospice care. We always referred to ourselves as twin cousins because we thought we looked alike and our birthdays were close and our parents lived in a duplex on Dwyer St. There were 13 siblings in our dad's family and the oldest was Coleman, who had the tax service in North Malvern. I'm thinking you lived across the street from them? -Martha Scrimshire Wade (10/5/05) Martha, please give us an update on Ed's condition. We were all very concerned at reunion time and I am sure he remains in our thoughts daily. -Charles Gibbs (1/27/06) It is very hard to convey Ed's condition, but I will try. The Dr. told us that he would have a very long and painful death and, unfortunately, that is what is occuring. He is still in good spirits even though he only weighs about 90 lbs.now. Just yesterday when I was there, he wanted me to help him "lift" weights. That means that he wanted his triangle bar so he could exercise his arms. He can't walk anymore or feed himself, however, he can still express how he likes his meals. He didn't like what they had sent him to eat and prompty sent me to the cafeteria to get him some "real" food. lol The Dr. has said that he can have his pain medicine every hour on the hour if he so chooses. Some days, he does just that, and is basically "out of it" most of the time. Other days he doesn't. It is just a day by day situation and we are trusting in the Lord to help us through each and every day. Please just keep us in your prayers! -Martha Chadwick Lindvall (1/27/06) Martha, I had no idea everything had progress this far. I am just speechless. You know how much you and Ed have always meant to all of us from the class of '60. You were then and are still one of the strongest women I have ever known. Of course Gerry and I will keep you in our prayers and I will bring both of the familys up in our prayer groups. You can never have too much prayer. We learned that when Gerry had his heart surgery and survived the quintuplet by passes and the pace maker. I would also like to ask you all continue to pray for me, they think I have developed post-trauma arthritis in my left hip which could mean hip replacement down the road. I pray for healing. Mom has fractured her right hip and is having trouble walking. This is the second time in 3 month. She fell and fractured her left hip 3 months ago. Hope one day we will have some praise reports and happy news to report here. Love and prayers to all -Judy Keeley (1/28/06) Thanks for the kind words and especially the prayers. Ed is the strong one though. I just don't know how he keeps on going. I just came in from the hospital and now they are saying his lungs are filling up slowly. He is holding on as hard and fast as he possibly can. It is all in the Lord's hands. I told him that the Lord had a plan for him and I guess this is it. Many people have been touched by his ability to keep his spirits up and his endurance. I know that I have. Hope your mom is doing better. I had to put my mom into the Lakewood Convelence Home two days after my birthday. She had a stroke in the night and spent several days in the hospital, but she has to have around the clock care. She is doing better though. She can walk a little, but she is still having trouble swallowing so they have to puree her food. Keep those prayers coming! It is all that keep me going! -Martha Chadwick Lindvall (1/28/06) I will, may I ask if Ed has congestive heart disease? Gerry does and I fear that what you describe for Ed is what will happen to Gerry someday. You can count on our prayers. -Judy Keeley (1/30/06) I'm so sorry to hear about Ed's health problems. Tell him my heart goes out to him. I can remember our days as schoolmates clear back to North Malvern Elementary School in 1948. Is there an address where cards/letters can be sent? -Bill Lamkins (2/1/06) What a wonderful idea! He is at The Arkansas Hospice, 2200 Fort Roots Dr., Bldg. 66, North Little Rock, AR 72114 I will certainly give him your message. Thanks so much! He sometimes relives some of those "good ole days". Just the other day he was "talking" to Coach Hunt...He said, "Coach, let Gilbert call the plays...He know what he is doing." lol I had to call Gilbert and tell him that one. lol I do appreciate all of the kind words and prayers that are offered. They mean so much at a difficult time like this. Thanks, again! Ed Scrimshire The Arkansas Hospice 2200 Fort Roots Dr., Bldg. 66 North Little Rock, AR 72114 -Martha Chadwick Lindvall (2/1/06) I have posted a photo of Ed at the Club homepage from the 1960 yearbook. My condolences to Martha, his family and friends. Ed and I were classmates clear back to grade school in the late 40s. -Bill Lamkins (2/12/06) I have been so blessed by family and friends that I don't know where to start to thank each and every one of you! Your kindness, thoughts, and prayers have been my stronghold and inspiration to keep "going on" in these most difficult times. It has been a long hard fight, but Ed is finally at rest and peace. II Timothy 4: 6-8 " I have fought the good fight" and he did just that. Ed always gave me a rose dipped in gold for Valentine's Day and always wrote this: " This rose like my love for you will never wither." I went down yesterday and bought one of those roses. It was his desire that I have a full dozen before he left, and now I have twelve. This poem really sums up how I feel. It is so very difficult to let go; there is a BIG void in my life now, but I know that he is in a better place and is whole and happy again. He suffered for ten years with his illness, but now he doesn't have to endure all of that pain anymore. God bless each and every one of you! Thank you for being my dear friends! Let me then fly with thee, and take me home. High above the valley, just below the sun. Home where the mornings shine and the evenings glow where my dreams have no frontiers, where my hopes will know no fear; where I finally will be as free as the wind!
