ELSIE GLAZE


Do yall remember Mrs. Glaze? 
I noticed her obituary in the Malvern paper, 8-28.
She was 93 when she died the 24th. What classes/ grades did she teach?
I can't find her in the yearbook.

I think she taught geography in jr. high -- but, then again, 
I never was known for paying much attention to my teachers, so my memory could be faulty!

Mrs. Glaze taught 7th grade Geography and Arkansas History. 
I remember having to memorize all 75 Arkansas Counties. 
Still can rattle them off to this day..Arkansas, Ashley, Baxter, Benton, Boone, Bradley, Calhoun.......
Oh well, you get the idea. I worked so hard trying to memorize those hummers that I would go to bed 
with them firmly implanted in what little mind I had. 
I would lay there trying to get them out of my mind. 
It was like that song at DisneyLand, "It's a Small World". 
We had to stand up and recite them in class. 
Remember..this was 7th grade, the most terrifying grade in school! 
Mrs. Glaze was a really nice person. Sorry to hear of her death.

I remember the counties just like you, Mike, but I'd forgotten who pounded it into my head.
Somewhere along the way I was forced to memorize every state & capital too.  Those have also stuck.
