Bill, this weekend I tried to scan a photo of Mrs. Reddin from my Junior High yearbook. It came out terrible. It has lines going through it. I am not sure what is causing it unless it is because I cannot get the cover of my scanner all the way down when trying to scan from my yearbook. I will try something different when I get the chance. Any ideas? I also tried to scan one of Mrs. Hazel Rhodes. Mrs. Rhodes died August 4th 1993. Also I scanned one of Mrs. Verna Stevens too. Don't know if she is still living or not. She taught English. Phil said that Mrs. Redding taught 9th grade Algebra. But I had her in the 7th grade. She taught 7th grade math. Anyway, any ideas as to why that picture has lines through it, just let me know. I would send it to you, but I left it had home. Mike Drain (3/19/01) You mentioned last March you were scanning a photo of Mrs. Rhodes and that she had died. Do you recall what grade she taught. Can you send a scan of her photo? I don't have any of the MHS Jr. High annuals. Thanks, Bill Lamkins (12/9/01) Bill, here is the photo of Mrs. Rhodes that I scanned. It did not come out well. As I said in my earlier email, I will try and get a better photo later for you. Mike (12/10/01) Hi Bill, Mrs. Rhodes taught 7th grade math, I think. I tried to scan a photo of her from the annual but it came out really bad. I will try and make a copy then scan it for you. It will probably be after Christmas. In fact, after Christmas when I have some breathing room, I am going to copy and scan several things from the Junior annuals. I have the 56 and 58 annuals. By the way, Mrs. Rhodes died August 4th, 1993. Mike (12/10/01) Mike Drain told me Mrs. Rhodes died in 1993 and that she taught 7th grade math. Does anyone have some memories or her such as what kind of teacher she was, etc.? Posted at Malvern Online Clubs by Bill (12/13/01) Hazel Rhodes did indeed teach 7th grade math. I felt she was mild mannered lady and was always willing to help you understand what she was teaching. After she retired from teaching (and maybe on holidays, Saturdays and during summer) she worked at Lindvall's Department store. Mary Jo Avery Bailey (12/13/01) Mrs. Hazel Rhodes did indeed teach math. I'm of the opinion that I had her for 8th grade math, not 7th, but perhaps she taught both. She was known to some of her less respectful students (of course I would never be a party to anything so petty) as "Witch Hazel", but was a pretty good teacher, even if a bit pedantic. I think she worked at Lindvall's some even before she retired. She also did income tax reports for some folks. She went to church at Second Baptist. She had a garage apartment behind her house on East Highland in the next block east of the high school. I rented that apartment from her in the summer of 1963, when I came back with a new bride to work in Malvern that summer before the last of my 27 years at the University of Arkansas. She was a nice lady, but did not imprint the math in your head like Ms. Jones would do later in second-year algebra. I believe my seventh grade math teacher was Bill Tucker, who also taught science, but I could be confusing years. Old Gold at MHS1959 Site (12/14/01)
