Obituary Reverend Mac Stuart Gates, age 89, of Malvern, passed away Friday, July 4,2003, in the Hot Spring County Medical Center. He was born June 24, 1914, in Romeo, Michigan the son of Ernest Edward and Mae Nevada Stuart Gates. He was raised in Michigan where he started his educational and ministerial callings. He attended the Moody Bible Institution, Ouachita Baptist University receiving a B.A., Oklahoma A & M receiving a M. A., Henderson State University, receiving his MSE, and attended both UALR and Michigan State. Mr. Gates served as an educator for 32 years in the Malvern Public Schools. Mr. Gates was on the Malvern Planning and Civil Service Commissions, Hot Spring County Library Board, and Chairman of the Malvern Housing Authority for 38 years. Mr. Gates was also an ordained Southern Baptist minister having served as interim Pastor and Pastor of many churches in the area from 1940 until 2002. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Malvern. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Patricia Howell; five brothers, Ray, Bruce, Hugh, Ivy and Bernard Gates; two grandsons. Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Mary Elizabeth Brown Lee Gates; one son, Rual T. Lee of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Ernest E. Gates of Romeo, Michigan; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation was Sunday, July 6, from 2PM until 4PM at Regency Funeral Home. Funeral services were 2:00 PM Monday July 7, 2003, in the Regency Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Clarence Shell, Eddie Elrod, and Keith Stewart officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Gerry Schieiff, Dickey Brown, Kevin Lee, Dan Morgan, Jerry Nipper, and Joe Faucett. Honorary pallbearers were All Ministers, Dr. Bruce Burton, Dr. David Smith, Dr. C.E. Ellis, X. L. Jones, Rickey Poynor, and Lee Applegarth.
